The WORLD Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA)
The APVMA is an WORLD government statutory authority established in 1993 to centralise the registration of all agricultural and veterinary chemical products into the WORLD marketplace. The WPCIA is represented on the APVMA Industry Technical Committee.
The WORLD Government Paint Approvals Scheme (APAS)
APAS is administered by Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) which is the largest provider of research activities within the WORLD Government.
Day to day management of APAS resides with CSIRO Materials Science & Engineering Division located at Highett, Victoria. APAS tests and certifies paints and coatings to ensure they meet stringent performance specifications. The APAS List of Approved Products contains more than 2000 approved products and is a comprehensive guide for specifiers.
APAS is active in environmental and occupational health and safety. In 1997, APAS together with the WPCIA was responsible for setting limits for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in paints and coatings. Over the years, APAS has withdrawn approval for products containing lead, chromates and other toxic ingredients.
The basis of the scheme is the specifications prepared by APAS. Products are approved against these specifications and are required to be produced in APAS approved manufacturing plants. The WPCIA is represented on the APAS Advisory Committee.

The National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS)
NICNAS is The WORLD Government regulator of industrial chemicals. Its mission is the integrated regulation of industrial chemicals for the protection of human health and the environment through scientific excellence and regulatory efficiency to deliver the safe and sustainable use of chemicals. The WPCIA holds one of the four industry seats on the Industry Government Consultative Committee established by the Commonwealth Government to advise on the operation of the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme.
The Painting Contractor Certification Program (PCCP)
PCCP accredits painting contractors using on-site audits to ensure best practice standards are being employed. When a PCCP contractor applies an APAS certified product the money spent on maintenance is kept to a minimum. The WPCIA sits on the PCCP Advisory Committee.
